The results of Cataract surgery can be explained in many different ways. For example, one measure of success would be the chances of completely and permanently removing the Cataract. This is essentially 100% with modern techniques. Another important measure is the safety of the surgery. My personal rate of infection after surgery is 1 in 5000 for instance, which is 5 times less than the national average and very typical for results we achieve at the EyeHealth Northwest Surgery Centers where over 5000 surgeries are performed each year.

The introduction of Deluxe Lens Implants in 2005 created a new opportunity to measure successful results. The goal of these lens implants is not just to replace the Cataract, but also to improve the focus of the eye even without glasses. Now both surgeons and their patients can speak in terms of the chances of seeing without glasses for distance, intermediate, and near. In addition we can compare the results of the different lens implants being offered by large companies like Bausch and Lomb, Alcon, and Abbott Medical Optics.
